Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan’s world’s fair, held a contest to design the exteriors of the innovative “Linimo” magnetic levitation trains that would take visitors to the site outside Nagoya.

My design was selected as first place from entries from around the world. The design and subsequent award ceremony were widely shown on Japanese television and newspaper front pages.

The work, entitled “Nature’s Colors,” played off the exposition’s theme “Nature’s Wisdom.” As the train is viewed from afar, the English text “EXPO 2005 AICHI” becomes visable. In the station, as the train approaches, the colors shift through a cycle of colors, referencing the colors and cycles of nature.
